Armando’s began with a vision to make live music accessible, offering a unique space for musicians and fans to connect.
Armando’s began as a labor of love, founded by Roy Jeans with a vision to create a space where live music would flourish and bring joy to the community. His goal was simple: build a welcoming stage for musicians of all backgrounds while giving the people of Martinez a unique place to gather and enjoy live music. Starting from modest beginnings, Armando’s quickly gained a reputation for its eclectic mix of talented performers and its genuine, friendly atmosphere. Over time, it has evolved, yet our mission remains the same—to bring the best live music experiences to Martinez.
1975
Armando’s story began with a passion for live music long before its doors officially opened. In 1975, founder Roy Jeans organized a high school reunion at Alhambra High School, bringing together three bands, including a then up-and-coming headliner, Chris Isaak. With over 300 people attending and enjoying the show, this event marked a pivotal moment in Roy’s journey, encouraging him to pursue a career in the music business.
2003
Roy transformed a two-story building in downtown Martinez, California, into Armando’s, with the upstairs serving as his residence and the downstairs as a unique, intimate performance space. Over the years, Armando’s became a beloved venue, hosting diverse genres such as jazz, blues, bluegrass, and folk, and welcoming both local talent and renowned artists to its stage.
February 2020
Despite closing in February 2020, Armando’s legacy continued. With strong community support, including a GoFundMe campaign launched in 2023
Early 2025
The venue is set to reopen in early 2025 across the street from its original location. This new space will carry forward the rich history and spirit of Armando’s, ensuring it remains a cherished hub for live music lovers in Martinez.
